Tree top hut

TRETOPHUT

Himmelhytta, Norway

A narrow wooden walkway leads through the forest and out across the wetlands. At the end of it, tucked into the treetops on a small island, is Himmelhytta. Just 1.5 hours north of Oslo, it feels like stepping into another world.

The cabin stands eight meters above the ground, surrounded by quiet forest and still water. Inside, it’s warm and inviting. The interior feels rustic and functional: wooden walls, a small kitchen with a stove and refrigerator, and a wood-burning stove that keeps the space cozy. Large windows fill the cabin with natural light and open up to peaceful views in every direction.

Himmelhytta sits between two forest ponds, by the lake side there’s a canoe. The water is calm, dotted with lily pads, and the only sounds are birdsong and the gentle dip of your paddle.

Evenings are spent on the veranda, watching birds come and go, or simply soaking in the stillness. Dinner is made in the little kitchen, candles are lit, and time slows down.
